SAILAWAY OF THE DOLWIN6 PLATFORM

Monday August 8, 2022

Since last Friday 5th of August, the offshore converter station of the DolWin6 grid connection system, including topside, jacket and bridge, departed from our Yard in Puerto Real and is on its way to the North Sea.
Sail away was successfully completed and the platform is now on board the transport barge “Iron Lady” on its way to the North Sea. Once platform arrives at the Dutch port of Rotterdam, it will be reloaded onto the world’s largest service vessel, Allseas’ 382-metre-long “Pioneering Spirit”, and then shipped to the installation site in the German North Sea.
Dragados Offshore is responsible for the design, supply, construction, transportation and installation of the platform and the jacket, while the scope of work to be performed by Siemens Energy is the design and supply of the HVDC equipment of both substations and the development of the onshore station. Jointly the installation will be commissioned, tested and put into operation offshore.
The contract is considered a major milestone for Dragados Offshore as it strengthens its activities into platform delivery for the offshore wind industry by performing a project at the forefront of its sector, and continues to consolidate Dragados Offshore’s leading position in the renewable offshore energy market.
The Dolwin6 Project was awarded by transmission system operator TenneT in July 2017. The commissioning phase is planned to be completed in 2023 and will provide green wind power to over 1 million households.
